Optimization
optimization is using derivatives to find out what the maximum or minimum of something is. This could mean a number of things. It could mean finding the dimensions of a piece of cardboard that would yield the highest volume of a box if that cardboard were to be made in one. (The trick for the box one is to remember that x is the height and the height can be figured by cutting squares out of the corners.
Some other types of problems include: Best revenue minus cost problems.
Example Problem:
• Here is a document that contains an area problem and a profit maximization problem and shows you how to solve them.

Here are some of the key elements to remember when doing optimization problems.
•Go over the problems slowly and carefully. It is easy to mess up the problem. Pay close attention to detail.
•Remember the first derivative test and the second derivative test.
•Make sure you have the two equations to solve for the values.
